The Chinese S2/S1 visa is issued to family members of foreigners who are working or studying in China. It’s intended for dependents such as spouses, parents, children, and in some cases, in-laws. The S Visa has two types:
- S1 Visa: For long-term stays, generally for family members who intend to stay in China for more than 180 days.
- S2 Visa: For short-term visits, typically for stays of less than 180 days.
S2 visa is generally issued for a period ranging from 30 to 180 days and allows single, double, or multiple entries. Most U.S. citizens are eligible to apply for a 10-year multiple-entry Chinese visa.
S1 visa is generally issued with a single entry and valid with 3 months, the applicant required to apply China Residence Permit within 30 days after entry, The China residence permit can be granted 3 months to 5 years; For S1 visa, the original relationship documents required.
Documents requirements for China Private Matter Visa S2
A, General Documents
(1), Passport and one photocopy:
Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended duration of your stay in China and have at least two blank visa page for the visa stamp.
(2), Digital Photo:
Please note for the China visa, only a digital photo is required, no paper photo is needed. Please take a photo with your phone and send it to us.
(3), Chinese Online Visa Application (COVA) form:
After you submit your visa request, we will send you a brief application form. Please complete it and send it back to us
(4), Proof of Residence
Copy of driver license or utility bill or bank bill.

B, Other Support Documents
(1), If you have had Chinese visa before, please provide photocopy of the latest Chinese visa or the Chinese residence permit, if it on previous passport, then provide one photocopy for that passport. If you cannot locate your old visa, please contact us to request a template and provide a visa loss statement.
(2), If the applicant is a foreigner in the US, Please provide a photocopy of green card, visa, I20, or I94 to prove their legal stay in the US.
(3), If the applicant was of Chinese nationality, this application is the first Chinese visa application after naturalization in a foreign country, please provide 2 photocopies of the bio-page of the Chinese passport and a photocopy of naturalization certificate. In addition, the last physical Chinese passport is needed for the visa application.
(4), If you are a government employee or work for a non-profit organization, please provide a employer letter .
(5), If you have previously served in the military, please contact us to request a template and provide a military service statement,
(6), If you have traveled to certain sensitive countries, such as Turkey, within the past 12 months, please contact us to request a template and provide a travel history record.
Note 1: Starting from October 23, 2023, For apply Chinese visa in person, There’s no need to make online appointment beforehand.
Note 2: Foreigners holding visas issued before March 28, 2020, that are still valid will be allowed to enter China.
